How do I register with New York Sports Connection?
Registering is easy. Just click on the link in the upper right hand corner of the home page. You’ll have to answer a few questions (nothing intrusive at all). By registering you will have full access to the web site, which includes receiving the weekly e-mail, the ability to pose questions to the community and to post classifieds.
What is New York Sports Connection?
New York Sports Connection is a web site designed to make life a little easier for parents of sports-playing children and also for adults seeking to get involved in organized sports in NYC. The site allows users to search for the best sports options, find private coaches, sell used equipment, post a question to the community, and, by signing up to a weekly e-mail, keep up-to-date with tryouts, sign-up periods and other sports-related events in the city. The New York Sports Connection weekly e-mail will address the second of our two goals—making sure you don’t miss important dates. Unlike other sites that send out multiple e-mails each day we will send a single e-mail on Tuesday morning. This e-mail will contain listings of upcoming tryouts/registrations/sign-up periods and other family related sports events so you can plan for the week ahead.

Does New York Sports Connection check the backgrounds of the private coaches listed?
We do not, and therefore we strongly urge you to meet these coaches before sending your children for a lesson with them. How do I buy an item?
First, you would search the items for sale. To do this you would either go to the Classifieds button on the home page and scroll down to the “Buy and Sell Used Equipment” button or go to the “Buy and Sell Used Equipment” button at the bottom of the home page. From there you can search by sport for items that may interest you. It is up to you to get in touch with the seller and arrange the purchase. How do I find a private coach?
Private coaches are listed under the Classifieds button on the home page (scroll down to the “Find a Private Coach” button). There is also a “Find a Private Coach” button at the bottom of the home page. From there you can search by sport for coaches. How do I find a sport?
Users can find and search through our directory of sports options a few different ways—either from the “Find a Sport” tab on the navigation bar, from the blue “Find Your Sport” box on the home page or from the “Find Your Sport and Play” slide that also appears on the home page. Either way, once you get to the listings and select a sport you can narrow your search by gender, age, borough, program offerings (for example, does it offer travel teams, weekend programs, league play, etc.) and/or whether there are programs for children with special needs.
How do I get paid when I sell an item?
We suggest getting payment from the purchaser before delivering the item being sold.
How do I receive my item?
It’s up to you and the seller to decide how you are going to get your purchase.
How soon does my post expire?
A post stays up New York Sports Connection for 30 Days.
I’d like to post a forum question. How do I do it?
This is easy. The only requirement before posting a question is that you register with us. (see above for how to register). After registering you can pose a question by going to the “Forum” tab in the navigation bar and opening the “Submit a Forum Thread” dropdown. You will need to be signed in to continue. Note: To prevent malicious content from being posted our Forums are moderated. This means that your question (or answer) will not appear until it is approved.
I’d like to sell some used equipment. How do I do it?
If you haven’t yet registered then that is your first step (see above). After logging in that selling an item is easy, just go to Classifieds in the navigation bar on the home page and click on the “Submit a Classified” dropdown. Make sure to fill out the information on the page and to click on “Used Equipment” under Type of Classified. We recommend uploading a photo of the item for sale. The more details you fill out the easier it will be for interested buyers to decide on the purchase.
I’m interested in a sport that doesn’t appear on New York Sports Connection. Can you still help me?
We sure hope so. When we created New York Sports Connection we wanted it to become a site for the community and of the community. We tried our best to make it as comprehensive as possible, but we know we may have missed some things. We’re constantly amazed at what is available in our great city and will be happy to add any legitimate organizations to our directory. Therefore, if you’re looking for something and we don’t have it let us know and we’ll try and add it to the site. Likewise, if you if you have a suggestion that you feel would make the site more useful tell us. All ideas can be sent to us via the Contact Us button on the home page. If we agree we’ll try and make it a reality.
I’m the parent of a child with special needs. Do you list programs for my child?
Yes. There are some fantastic programs for children with special needs. You can click on the Special Needs button at the bottom of the home page to find listings of organizations that offer programs for your child.
I’m interested in learning about some of the sports-focused non-profits in the city that provide special programs to youth from underserved neighborhoods.
We’re glad to hear that and that’s why we created a special listing of such organizations. We too think they do great work and we want everyone to know about them. To view a listing of these organizations click on the Non-Profits button at the bottom of the home page.

It’s best to carefully examine an item before finalizing a purchase. We also hope that anyone posting an item for sale honestly represents its condition.
For Sports Organizations, Leagues, Teams, etc.
Does my organization have to have a listing for me to make an announcement on the weekly e-mail?
Only those users who have been approved as Administrators for their respective organizations can post announcements. If you represent an organization that is not listed and would like to make an announcement (and you don’t feel the need to create a listing for your organization) you can contact us and send the wording of the listing to us and we will post it (pending our approval). All such announcements MUST be received no later than 5:00 pm each Monday. These types of announcements are ideal for one-off announcements such as when a school is hosting a sports-related speech or other event.
Editing an Announcement
Made a Mistake? Changes to announcements can be made up until 9:00 am every Tuesday and still make it into that week’s e-newsletter. After 9:00 am every Tuesday the e-newsletter will be sent with the announcements as is and no further edits can be made. Changes made after 9:00 am on Tuesday will be reflected in the announcement on the home page. To edit an announcement after it has been submitted go to your ‘My Dashboard’ (link located in the top right corner of the home page ). There you should see links to any announcements you may have. After making the change re-submit the announcement as you did initially. The new, updated announcement will temporarily be removed from the website until it is approved by NewYork Sports Connection.
How can I make an announcement on the weekly e-mail?
The announcements that appear on the home page and our weekly e-mail are a vital component of our goal of making sure our users do not miss important dates. We encourage all organizations to post announcements of upcoming tryouts, sign-up/registration periods and other sports-related events. To post an Announcement you must already be the designated Administrator of your listing (see above). Announcements will appear both on the Home Page and the weekly e-mail that will go out on Tuesday mornings. The Weekly E-mail is designed to give users a heads up about future events. With that in mind we suggest you give users ample lead time to make sure they don’t miss out. NOTE: All announcements are subject to New York Sports Connection approval before they are visible to the public. It may take as much as 24 hours for your announcement to appear.
How do I upload a photo to appear next to my listing?
We have given each organization the ability to upload a photo to their listing. Once uploaded this photo is uploaded it will replace the New York Sports Connection one that we place on all listings. Directions to come with size restrictions of photo, etc.
I see that my organization has a listing. How do I make changes to it?
We created basic listings for hundreds of organizations across New York City, however we may still be lacking some information that best reflects your organization. Since the web site is being shared with the public we hope you will go to your listing and check that what we have is accurate.
To edit your listing you must first apply to become the Administrator of your listing. To do this simply click on the blue button at the bottom right of your listing. You will be asked to give us some details and then wait until you are approved (we’re sure you’ll agree that we need to make sure that we need to take care when approving people—we wouldn’t want someone from another organization making changes to y our site). Once you are approved you will have the ability to edit your listing.
We encourage you to add to your listing, keep it updated and make sure the information that we initially put in it is accurate. Specifically, you should check the address, phone, contact name, e-mail address, web site url and weather you offer programs for children with special needs. For the programs you offer you should verify that the sports listed are correct, as well as the gender, ages and program options. You should use the large space below your organization’s name to describe your programs. We’ve found that when choosing programs parents want to know the basics–for example, what types of programs do you offer, when do they meet (days and time) and where do they meet (what gyms do you use, what fields do you play on, where are classes held). If the programs your offer change from season to season we hope you will come back and update your listing.

My organization is not listed. How can I get it listed?
While we worked hard to create listings for many sports organizations in the city we know we probably missed some so we are happy to have those that we omitted generate their own.
Before you can create a listing you must be registered (see above) with New York Sports Connection and be logged in. Once you have registered and are logged in go to the Find a Sport button in the navigation bar on the home page and then go to the Submit Your Organization dropdown. For instructions on how to fill out the information that relates to your organization read the answer to “I see that my organization has a listing. How do I make changes to it?”
Someone told me that saw my organization on New York Sports Connection. How can I find the listing?
To find your listing you can either do a search via the box on the upper right-hand corner of the home page or go to Find A Sport and search for the sports your organization offers.
What does it mean to be an “Administrator” of an organization?

The way the site works we initially created basic listings on our site for many sports organizations across the city. While we started the listing we’d rather have representatives from each organization take control of the information about their organizations on our site. Administrators have the ability to edit their listing as often as they like, upload a photo that will appear alongside it and post announcements that will appear on the home page of the site and in the weekly newsletter that we send out every Tuesday.
For Other Users
Do you accept submissions for the Featured Commentaries on the home page?
Yes. New York Sports Connection is always looking for submissions for our Featured Commentaries. These articles can be on a wide range of topics focusing on the youth and adult sports community in New York City. If you’re a trainer, coach, parent, nutritionist or a doctor and would like to submit a commentary for publication on our sire. Contact us and we’d be glad to discuss your ideas.
I own/manage a store that is not listed on the site. What do I do to get it listed?
If your store is located in one of the five boroughs we would be happy to add it to our directory. Send information (name of store, sports in which you specialize, address, phone, web site if you have one and a brief description of your store) to us and we will post it.
I own/manager a store that is currently listed on the site. What do I do to make changes to the information in the listing?
If you own/manage a store that is already in our directory and would like to change some of the information in your listing send an e-mail to: email@example.com. Make sure to provide us with the information you would like displayed in your listing.
I’m a coach and I want to list on the private coaches page. How do I do that and how much does it cost?
